Amazing color photography of Hartford architecture by Jack McConnell creates a fresh perspective on one of America’s oldest cities. It’s not the same-old, same-old beige and gray Hartford. Jack rediscovers the capital city by shooting with an extreme telephoto 400-550mm lens, an extreme wide-angle 8-15mm lens, and a multi-colored polarizing filter. By drastically changing his point of view, Jack creates a Parallax effect and an energetic profile of Hartford.
This comes at a pivotal time when four nearby colleges are moving campuses downtown, when 17 office buildings are renovating spaces to include apartments and lofts, and many skyrise office complexes are being refurbished and modernized. It’s time to embrace a NEW Hartford, the one we’ve all been waiting for. A state-of-the-art DoNo baseball stadium, and many new restaurants, clubs, music and movie venues are enlivening Downtown and the convention center corridor near the Science Center and Riverfront Recapture. Jack feels an urgency to share these photographs with folks who need to see them—city dwellers, neighbors, and visitors who come to work and play in the Capitol city. And he hopes his reinterpretation of Hartford will delight viewers and help define a more upbeat view of the city.
These photos can be used as elements in collage murals, banners, and billboards alongside Classic Hartford images to promote and market the city. When browsing the City Abstract collection, click to enlarge to full size to see the full vertical or horizontal.
